By Duane Shinn

All of us know what jazz is when we hear it, but trying to define it is a different matter. With so many variant styles, coming up with an accurate definition of jazz is difficult if not impossible.

But I suppose that an article on jazz really ought to attempt to define the term “jazz.” My Thorndike-Barnhart Dictionary defines jazz like this:

*jazz (jaz), noun. 1. American music with the accents falling at unusual places; syncopated music. 2. Slang, liveliness – adj. of or like jazz: a jazz band.

Besides not telling us very much, it is also obviously false. I think... (more)

The only other criticism that I have is the final gun battle: first, it went on way too long and second, why is it that only John and Jane have decent bulletproof vests, but everyone else may as well be dressed in pink lace? Nevertheless, the movie is a lot of fun, and a worthy escape to two hours of killer fantasy.

The reinvention of this movie really differrent with the unnecessary love interest. This serves no real purpose other than to cater to the "rules" of blockbuster movie-making.

Well maybe, but I thought for a moment I was watching the wrong film, where he's training him in sword fighting. Look, it's a beautiful film, there is no doubt about that, it has great moments and a good cast. But I prefer the Tim Burton Batman films, I think. I'm giving it three and a half.

The story and Character development of this project were tight and the special effects were awesome as well. There are some aspects of the film that I still cal into question (Jessica Alba has neither the age or the depth for the sue storm Character) but I understand certain concessions of making a large budget studio project. (Besides ALBA IS HOT, especially in the skin tight blue suit) All in all, I say the movie bring me back to old memories...

...Alba, you are the hottest!!

Sexy Foreign Phrases

Have you ever noticed how much sexier things sound when they're said in a foreign language? Given that fact, you could probably seduce somebody just by whispering the ingredients of a croque-monsieur in their ear -- provided they don't know their jambon from their fromage.

But if you really want to sound impressive, you'll want to be able to do more than just recite a grocery list. You'll want words filled with amor, fuego, and passione.

The Godfather (1972)

From the opening credits, you become completely immersed in the world of the Godfather. One of this film's greatest strengths is the pure power of the culture surrounding it. When you watch it, you feel like the society and the people in have descended from generations of people who have been in the "business".

The acting is nothing less than sensational and the music accentuates and complements the film beautifully.

Not much else can be said of perfection.

This film is a must-have for anyone who professes to watch movies and is a required viewing for cultural education
